Squirrel!

The 5th grade traditionally buys a gift for the school.  Past years they bought the mascot mats in the front lobby.
This year, they bought a mural!
I don't think squirrels are very scary, but this is their theme...
Before, after I pulled down this sign that was DUCT-taped to the wall!  Horrible things happen to paint that is taped like this!  It pulls off the finish, leaves very sticky residue...
I did not have mathcing background paint, so strategically put some of  the lettering over the biggest wall wounds.  Should have charged extra for wall prep.  The head janitor, Ms Nancy, supplied Goo Gone, brown paper towels and a Magic Eraser that helped.

Painting for Parents

This is AFTER: muted colors, a veil of sage-jade washed over the entire mural to mute it, on purpose.
BEFORE: brighter contrasts, purple shadows stand out against greens. Whites are really white. Client saw it at this point and wanted it more muted. Can do, as seen above.
Seagull picture I took out on the Great Salt Lake on screen saver, and now painted on wall! Print hanging on wall is an original David C. Babcock, also with birds. I love the theme repeated in many mediums.

Quote taken from "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" painted with wall color and shadow and highlight.

Tropical Fish

Bathrooms are the perfect place for a mural! I paint a clear matte layer of polyurethane over everything to keep it waterproof and washable.

First time I sub-contracted a teenager to help: Melissa painted in the turtle for me while I worked on the rest of the bathroom!

Jungle

Unicorns and Dolphins

Roxie Jane is growing. She has been complaining of leg pains.

This was her pink, PINK unicorn bedroom I painted 2 months before we moved from Bailey Road.

I taught her and Sam how to paint when we moved. They worked together cutting in my room, and then did her room light aqua and learned how to roll, too! Then I taught her some mural tricks, and she chose to do a dolphin for her fish room. A grown up big girl room.

Cats and Monkeys

Find the signature, easier to read in mirror!

Monkeys in cat room.

And more monkeys, painted super fast. Silly and sketch-painted, so I could be done already.

Castle and Dragons

Once upon a time there was a wizard castle...

...and a Dragon Keeper across the sea...

The bunnies are my favorite part--

Fuzzy long shot. I paint better than I photograph.

Giraffe Nursery

The inspiration

From blankets to wall:
Cut out for changing table...

From Pottery Barn kid nursery giraffe collection blanket to pretty grey wall: There is a paint brush in the giraffe's mouth with paint drips so it looks like it just finished painting baby's name.

When they get carpet in and furniture I will go back to take photo with everything in place. Good luck to the new parents-to-be!
